These prints are part of a set of 25, known as 'les gueux' or 'les mendiants', published in Nancy, France between 1622 and 1623. Numbered 12 and 16, they depict a beggar in a simple cloak, and a woman with crutches. Measuring 5.9 x 9.05 inches (viewable 3.93 x 5.9 inches), they are by Jacques Callot, a 17th-century master of incision. Callot's apprenticeship began in Rome in 1609, where he learned from Philippe Thomassin. He later worked in Florence and returned to Lorraine in 1621. His notable works include 'Les Misères et les malheurs de la guerre'.
